Cornell University graduate student Meredith Talusan, 38, claims she was discriminated by a housemate—but instead of being protected, she's now being kicked out of the house.
A transgender Filipina scholar at the prestigious Cornell University is now facing eviction proceedings from her free campus housing in Ithaca, New York.
Meredith Talusan, 38, claims she was harassed and discriminated by a housemate at the Telluride Branch Housing last year.
She claims that instead of being protected from her supposed trans-phobic housemate, the Telluride Association is now evicting her from a shared campus home, after some house members said they felt unsafe following her impromptu protest in their dining room.
Talusan must appear at a court hearing on Jan. 15 to present her counter claim against the eviction.
She told Balitang America that she will continue to fight for her housing scholarship.
An online petition to stop her eviction has more than 1,600 signatures on change.org.
