Born and raised in the Philippines, Rocero found an early sense of belonging through the country's trans beauty pageant community. She later moved to the United States and pursued modeling, eventually building a professional career in New York.
But one of the most important moments in her public life came far away from a fashion shoot.
In 2014, Rocero stood on the TED stage and publicly shared that she is a transgender woman.
A TED Talk That Reached the World
In her talk, “Why I Must Come Out,” Rocero shared memories from growing up in the Philippines and spoke about her journey toward living as the woman she knew herself to be.
She also explained why she had kept her trans identity private while establishing herself as a professional model.
