Finding Her Place in the Performing Arts
Daniela Vega has built a career that brings together acting, music and a strong connection to the performing arts. Born in Santiago, Chile, she developed an interest in music at a young age and trained as an opera singer before acting became an important part of her creative life.

Vega gained international recognition through her performance as Marina Vidal in the 2017 drama A Fantastic Woman. Marina is a singer and waitress whose life changes after the sudden death of her partner, leaving her to face grief while also confronting hostility from people around her.
Vega's performance placed her at the center of the film rather than at the edge of someone else's story. Her portrayal of Marina attracted international attention as the movie traveled through major film festivals and reached audiences around the world.
A Film That Reached the Academy Awards
A Fantastic Woman went on to win the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2018 ceremony. The success of the movie brought even greater international attention to Vega and to Chilean cinema.
That same year, Vega appeared on the Academy Awards stage as a presenter, becoming the first openly transgender person to present at the ceremony. It was another highly visible moment in a career that had quickly moved from Chilean theater and film to the international stage.
Expanding Into International Television
Vega continued acting after the success of A Fantastic Woman. She appeared as Ysela in the 2019 television miniseries Tales of the City, expanding her work into an English-language production with an international audience.
Her television career also included a major role as Elisa Murillo in the Chilean series La Jauría. She later appeared in projects such as Once Upon a Time... Happily Never After, La Rebelión and the international drama series The Power.
An Artist With a Career Beyond One Role
Although A Fantastic Woman remains the performance that introduced Vega to many viewers, her career extends beyond a single celebrated film. Her background in theater and music, combined with her continuing television and film work, shows the range of her interests as a performer.
